ICC leads the role to set rules and standards for the conduct of international trade, which are accepted by all business sectors. Background History of Indians employed on board

Until the late 1950’s Indian Officers predominately manned Indian Flag Vessels. On the other hand, Indian Ratings have for over a century been manning foreign flag ships mostly British.

The 60’s saw a new trend wherein services of Indian Officers started to be requisitioned for foreign flag ships. Steadily India became an important provider of manpower for ship owners all over the globe.

The DUBAI SHIPPING AGENTS ASSOCIATION (DSAA) is a brainchild of reputable members of the Shipping Agents’ community in Dubai who, with the support of the Director of the Department of Ports & Customs, identified the need for a joint representation of shipping agents doing business in the ports of Dubai.

The Dubai Shipping Agents Association is a non- profit organization, not engaged in any commercial activity. Mumbai and Nhava-Sheva Ship-Agents Association - (MANSA), founded in the year 1977, is the vision of a group of dynamic and progressive shipping professionals. This association was earlier called Bombay Steamer Agents Association (BSAA).

International Freight Network (IFN) brings together 190+ independent freight forwarders in 115 countries. Federation of Freight Forwarders' Associations in India (FFFAI) is the Apex Body and the Sole Representative of 28 Member Associations from all over India representing 6500 Customs Brokers (employing over 1,10,000 people). The International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) is a membership organisation which works to promote and support the welfare of seafarers all over the world.

Seafarers bring us 95% of the things we use every day and take care of us when we travel by sea, but their lives are often tough. They experience long periods away from family and friends with limited or no communication, fast turnaround of ships in ports with severely restricted shore leave, reduced crew numbers and increased workloads. Welfare services and facilities both on board and ashore can be a lifeline for seafarers.

FONASBA maintains a close watch on all developments of interest and concern to the ship broking and ship agency professions and takes appropriate action to ensure that those interests are protected.

Founded in 1957 by a group of Master Mariners and registered under the Company's Act of 1956, 'The Company of Master Mariners of India' is a professional body representing Master Mariners with the purpose of developing and promoting the traditions and standards of the Merchant Navy in India. Today it is the only body of its kind in India with 15 chapters, 2 overseas chapter and over 3500 members.

CMMI provides a valuable service to the seafarers in India through various activities such as conducting educational seminars, publishing books and magazines, advising and assisting the DGS and promoting the Merchant Navy as a career option for youngsters.

The National Association of Freight and Logistics (NAFL) was founded in Dubai in February 1992 as mandated by the Government of Dubai to respond to the need to bring together the increasing number of freight and logistics service providers in the UAE. NAFL, previously named National Committee of Freight Forwarders (NCFF), is the first national association of freight forwarders to be established in the Arabian Gulf.

Shortly after its establishment, on March 31, 1992, NAFL achieved another feat by becoming the first and only national association from an Arabian Gulf country to join the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA). Since then, NAFL has been a staunch supporter of FIATA.

World Freight Network (WFN), ISO 9001:2008 Certified, successfully links together 255+ independent freight forwarders in 115 countries. Women Organizations

International Maritime Organization (IMO) has held a conference for Arab Women in its framework to support women’s role in Maritime sector, according to the goals of the sustainable development of UN especially the SDG 5. They have decided to establish Arab Women in the Maritime Association (AWIMA) during this conference.

IMO and AASTMT have provided the technical support and the formulation of this resolution; it was related to the establishment of this association.

They have adopted this resolution and worked on it, they have agreed that the permanent headquarter of the General Secretariat of AWIMA must be in one of the Arab countries, AASTMT as a representative of all Arab countries has offered to host the General Secretariat, the Director of the General Secretariat must be a permanent member in the Governing Council of this association. Annual elections must be held to elect the President of the association as well as the rest of the members of the Council.

 WISTA Arabia-UAE promotes diversity in the maritime and empowers women to lead through their unique perspective.

Formed in 1974, the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA International) is a global organisation connecting female executives and decision-makers around the world. WISTA International serves as a connector for its network of more than 3,800 female professionals from all sectors of the maritime industry. 54 countries support a National WISTA Association (NWA), each of which in turn is a member of and is guided by WISTA International. NWAs provide in-country and regional networking, business and skill-building opportunities, corporate visibility, and also facilitate relationships within the industry. On a global scale, WISTA members have access to an incredibly diverse network of executives in the shipping and trading field on whom they can call for referrals, connections, advice or business collaborations.
